Curriculum & Learning

Grace Christian School provides an academic program that promotes student excellence. We recognize the need for individualized attention; therefore, classes at Grace are intentionally small and focused. We embrace our role as educators. Administrators and teachers know each student and are aware of individual learning styles.

Separating Grace from other private schools is our Christian foundation and faith. We are proud to integrate a Christian world view into each of our classes. All members of our teaching staff have been called by God to educational-ministry and are Christian leaders in their home churches and communities.

Our core academic courses are instructed using both Christian and secular texts and resources. Text selections and resources are given significant thought and consideration. Selections are made based on curricular quality and enrichment. Our primary core resources are from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH). We also use texts from McGraw Hill. Students have access to traditional hardback textbooks as well as online virtual textbooks. The virtual texts have become a parent and student favorite as the wireless technology lightens backpacks and provides additional enhanced learning opportunities as well as a plethora of home support resources.

Specialized learning opportunities are also available at Grace in the following subject areas: Bible, technology, personal finance, physical education, foreign language, art, music, public speaking, and career internships. Grace works in partnership with Richard Bland College of William and Mary and Reynolds Community College to provide high school students with dual-enrollment course opportunities. High achieving academic students leave Grace having earned 15-24 college credits.

Graduation Requirements

Grace Christian School provides students the opportunity to complete achievements for a Standard Diploma or an Advanced Diploma. The Grace administrative staff meets once a year with parents and students to review academic progress and to discuss educational or career plans beyond high school. Many colleges require high school students to have attained specific academic courses. The Grace administrative staff works with students to ensure their academic path is aligned with their college choices.

Dual Enrollment

Grace Christian School is proud to partner with Richard Bland College of William & Mary and Liberty University to provide our students with valuable Dual Enrollment (DE) opportunities. Through this program, high school students can earn college credits while completing their Grace coursework. Students take DE classes in a variety of formats: courses taught directly at Grace, online offerings, and even classes on the Richard Bland campus. This flexibility allows students to grow in college readiness and independence while still receiving the support of their teachers and parents. At Grace, we take a strategic approach to Dual Enrollment. Our administrative team works closely with families and partner colleges to ensure students are selecting general education courses that will transfer well into their future college programs. Rather than filling schedules with elective credits, we focus on courses that support each student’s long-term academic and career goals.

Senior Career Internship Program

The Grace Christian School Senior Career Internship Program provides students with a real-world learning experience that helps them explore potential career paths and clarify their future goals. Seniors have the unique opportunity to work side-by-side with professionals, applying concepts they have learned in the classroom to authentic workplace environments.

The mission of the program is to help students develop interpersonal skills, gain confidence, and learn from hands-on experiences that prepare them for future success. With partnerships across more than 20 local businesses and organizations, our students are able to step into fields that match their interests and talents.

Many Grace seniors move directly from their internships into related college majors, trade programs, and even career employment. This program allows students to explore God’s calling on their lives while gaining valuable insights and skills that will serve them well in any path they choose.
